Islamic failure series – Episode 33 – Mountains have roots to keep Earth firm

Mountains have roots to keep Earth firm

Mountains have roots to keep Earth firm

For all those who have difficulties or even failed geology classes at school or at the university, if you ever felt stupid or incapable of understanding geology, then wait to read what Quran says! Whatever you couldn’t understand would still make you a genius compared to what Quran teaches here! And Muslims consider this as a Quranic scientific miracle, and will brag and tell you: how could something like this be mentioned in Quran 1400 years ago? This is a proof of the divinity of Quran because it cannot come from an illiterate man (Muslims claim Muhammad was illiterate), rather than the creator himself, Allah!

http://quran.com/16/15

And He has cast into the earth firmly set mountains, lest it shift with you, and [made] rivers and roads, that you may be guided,
(An-Nahl 16:15, English – Sahih International)

http://quran.com/21/31
And We placed within the earth firmly set mountains, lest it should shift with them, and We made therein [mountain] passes [as] roads that they might be guided.
(Al-Anbiya 21:31, English – Sahih International)

http://quran.com/31/10

He created the heavens without pillars that you see and has cast into the earthfirmly set mountains, lest it should shift with you, and dispersed therein from every creature. And We sent down rain from the sky and made grow therein [plants] of every noble kind.
(Luqman 31:10, English – Sahih International)

http://quran.com/78/7
And the mountains as stakes?
(An-Naba 78:7, English – Sahih International)

But hang on, let us make Quran very flexible for cherry pickers! So for ignorants we will tell them that mountains fix the earth from moving, just like the above verses, but when someone shows he/she is smart, let us tell him/her that mountains move according to plate tectonics which happened to be mentioned in Quran as well, this time let us show him/her this verse

http://quran.com/27/88
And you see the mountains, thinking them rigid, while they will pass as the passing of clouds. [It is] the work of Allah, who perfected all things. Indeed, He is Acquainted with that which you do.
(An-Naml 27:88, English – Sahih International)

http://quran.com/27/61
Is He [not best] who made the earth a stable ground and placed within it rivers and made for it firmly set mountains and placed between the two seas a barrier? Is there a deity with Allah? [No], but most of them do not know.
(An-Naml 27:61, English – Sahih International)

Wait, wait, wait… Did you notice something wrong? In the same chapter, 27/61 it says firmly set mountains then in the same chapter 27/88 it just contradicts itself by saying And you see the mountains, thinking them rigid, while they will pass as the passing of clouds. No no, this is not a contradiction, I must have taken it out of context!

I’m sure people would accuse me saying that Quran doesn’t say roots, and I am misleading people, so I will give you some of the islamic resources on the web (not Ihab’s resources), some are videos, some are simple links, while some claim to be real university research!

This guy (only Arabic) says that mountains have roots as mentioned in Quran that prevents earth from moving/shaking and refers to http://quran.com/78/7

There is even a Wikipedia page for Quranic Geological Miracles here:http://ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A5%D8%B9%D8%AC%D8%A7%D8%B2_%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AC%D9%8A%D9%88%D9%84%D9%88%D8%AC%D9%8A_%D9%81%D9%8A_%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%82%D8%B1%D8%A2%D9%86 and who knows why (ironically) the only available language is Arabic! Maybe because if it was translated to any other language, especially the languages of the infidel scientific bad asses, people would laugh at Islam and Quran? Noooo, come on, I am exaggerating! The whole western science cannot stand in the face of Quranic miracles!

This page is mainly in Arabic, but had several references to infidel university researches that confirm the Quranic miracles
http://www.kaheel7.com/ar/index.php/2010-02-02-20-10-20/276-2010-09-25-14-48-28
Which translates to
In the past years, scientists have discovered that every mountain is a wedge fixing earth in its rotation

This is an Islamic blogger http://antishobhat.blogspot.it/2013/01/blog-post_23.html?m=1 who copied the exact bullshit from the previous website above

Another website http://www.startimes.com/?t=31169896 quoting original Arabic:
أكدت الدراسات الجيولوجية الحديثة أن جذور الجبال تحفظ القارات من التحرك فوق الصخور الملتهبة المائعة الموجودة أسفل القشرة الأرضية، ولولا جذور الجبال لطفت الصخور اللينة إلى السطح الخارجي للقشرة الأرضية وهذا يؤدي إلى انعدام توازن الكرة الأرضية بسبب عدم التماثل في توزيع المادة الأرضية
Which translates to: Modern geological studies confirmed that the roots of the mountains prevents the continents from moving over the molten fluid rocks situated under the earth’s crust, and if it wasn’t for the roots of the mountains, the soft molten rocks would float over the crust, and this leads to a lack of balance of the globe due to the asymmetry in the distribution of the ground

Another Arabic resources http://www.eajaz.org/index.php/Scientific-Miracles/Earth-and-Marine-Sciences/345-Mountains

This site has both Arabic and English quotes from scientific researcheshttp://www.eltwhed.com/vb/showthread.php?58052-%CC%D0%E6%D1-%C7%E1%CC%C8%C7%E1-%E3%E4-%C7%E1%DD%D1%D6%ED%C9-%C7%E1%EC-%C7%E1%CD%DE%ED%DE%C9-%C7%E1%DA%E1%E3%ED%C9

More links http://www.quran-m.com/firas/arabicold/print_details.php?page=show_det&id=1940 with scientific references and interesting images, and obviously saying the magical word (root) even in English

I guess you had enough bullshit references right? Well, I just gave you the tip of the iceberg! Google it for yourself to see how many Islamic resources you get back!

About Mike

Hello, I am an atheist because of reason and personal experience. I am a father of THREE lovely living kids and two dead embryos, married to a lovely Christian Catholic devoted woman. Yes, black and white can coexist as long as there is respect and love, which is something abstracted from any belief or religion. I do not claim absolute truth and not 100% sure that a God does not exist somewhere out there. The scientific method is what I use to connect to reality. If there is something I don't understand, then it is because i don't understand, not because god exists. In case you haven't noticed, I am a native Arab, and English is my third language (yes there is second language). I like reading the Bible and the Quran and the critics of both of them. I also love watching documentaries especially astronomy, cosmology, Quantum Physics, and new discoveries in science in general, and Physics in particular.

  1. oh the idiocy here. It’s great to watch religious nonsense being claimed as better than actual geology. Golly, I could have just read fairy tales rather than spending years in college learning this stuff. :)
